Many of our products are sold globally and we need to ensure that our customers receive the same high quality of product and product support in all markets.
Product stewardship is at the core of ICI business thinking because our business and product portfolios have in recent years become much closer to the consumer. The challenges associated with food ingredients are much different to those of safe delivery and use of industrial commodity chemicals.
Commitment to product stewardship is one of the core elements of ICI’s policy on Safety, Security, Health and the Environment and ICI’s Responsible Care Management System. This encompasses protecting our customers and the public by the assessment and management of potential risk from our products throughout their life cycle: research and development, raw material sourcing, manufacture, storage, distribution, applications, reasonably foreseeable uses, including the proper handling by customers, distributors and other companies. It requires management, employees, contractors, customers and all those involved in the supply chain to work together in applying safe and environmentally sound practices, based on risk assessment.
Our product stewardship system applies five global standards:
* Product Design and Development
* Product Management, Distribution and Use
* Suppliers and other Purchased Services
* Material Hazards
* Resource Conservation
Product stewardship is included in our Challenge 2010 programme. Our targets include implementing the updated ICI product stewardship self-assessment system, and a wider range of supplier assessments.
