Environmental

In developing our approach to sustainability, including our policies, standards and specific performance targets, ICI has taken into account the views and needs of its main stakeholder groups.

Our Sustainability Challenge 2010 objectives, the latest in our five-year Challenge improvement objectives, encompass these stakeholder groups, and will be monitored by a Stakeholder Review Group (link to be added) including investors, academia and NGOs.

Since the first improvement objectives were set in 1990, ICI's portfolio has changed fundamentally, moving from a producer of bulk chemicals on large industrial sites, to a specialty products and paints business operating from many smaller sites.

At the same time, through the series of rolling five-year safety, security, health and environment (SSHE) programmes we have reduced the environmental impacts of our businesses so that they are now a fraction of what they were in the early 1990s.
